Clymer Fire wins FEMA Grant

Clymer Volunteer Fire Company firefighters plan to update their protective clothing, add new fire detection equipment and make improvements to their fire station with a $99,664 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The fire company will use the grant money to update the members’ fire-resistant protective clothing known as bunker gear, and for less-cumbersome jumpsuits to be worn as rescue gear.  The money will also purchase high-visibility vests the Clymer firefighters will wear at traffic accident scenes and signs that will warn motorists they are approaching accidents.

Some of the money will buy an emergency generator so that the fire station can be used as an emergency shelter, and another thermal-imaging camera to help the members detect fires burning inside walls.

Thanks to Clymer Borough Manager Rob Barto who assisted with the grant narrative that made it possible for Clymer Vol. Fire Co. to be awarded this competitive grant!
